Guilt Feeling (part one)

I have met many who suffer from guilt feeling. They feel that their sins is unforgivable because of:

1- the nature of the sin, because it is very awful

2- or their distrust that the blood of Jesus is not adequate to atone the sins of the whole world

3- or they do not have faith that our Lord Jesus Christ loves them.

It is clear from the Word of God that every sin is forgivable except blaspheming the Holy Spirit, for the Holy Spirit is the One who convict us when we sin. If we blaspheme the Holy Spirit who will convict us? That is why we have to develop intimacy with the Holy Spirit so when we sin He will convict us.

When some one come to me in Christian counseling and they suffer from guilt feeling and thinks his or her sin is unforgivable, I always give this example.

The example is:

 Imagine that two people standing on a bridge over a big river and one has in his hand a pebble and the other has in his hand a big rock, both of them through what in their hands in the river, will the pebble and the rock reach the bottom of the river or not? Of course they will reach the bottom of the river. The Blood of Jesus is like a huge river for it is capable to atone for the sins of the whole world. There is no sin the Blood of Jesus is not capable to atone for and cancel it from the life of any person, if he repented of it.

The seriousness of guilt feeling

Guilt feeling is one of the most serious spiritual and emotional problems that the Christian person faces in his life. Guilt feeling is when the person feels that he is at fault because of his sins, no matter how many times he had repented of them. Or he is at fault at all times and under any circumstance in an alarming way. He can feel also that whatever he does will causes a big problem and the consequences will be bigger. He feels that his sins are so horrible they will not be forgivable no matter how many times he repented of them.

the worst schemes of Satan

Guilt feeling is one of the worst schemes of Satan. Satan wants to destroy you at any cost and by whatever it takes and in any way. He wants to separate you from the source of life and peace, Jesus Christ.

Sin will separate you from our Lord

“Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.” {Isa 59:1,2} without a doubt sin will separate us from the presence of God in our lives, that is why we have to be aware of the presence of sin in our lives and do whatever it take to eliminate sin in our lives. Jesus Christ gave us in the cross whatever we need to live in holiness and to have life and a better life. He gave us His precious Blood to atone for our sins, if we repent. Satan will try hard to make us doubt the value of the precious Blood of Jesus and the love of our Good God to us. And He gave us His grace to overcome the power of sin. Jesus Christ said about Satan that he is a liar and father of lies. Do not give an ear to Satan’s lies.

 Guilt feeling cancels out the preciousness of the Blood of Jesus as God and cancels out the sacrificial work on the cross.

Jesus paid for all the sins of the world from the first to the last sin on earth with the condition that the person repent of his sin and asks for the forgiveness of Jesus Christ. Anyone who does not repent of his sins he is without excuse.

In the cross

When Jesus Christ died on the cross He offered Himself as a perfect and holy sacrifice without a blemish. He offered a complete, holy and perfect sacrifice on the cross to cancel out all the sins of humanity, to everyone who accept Him as Savior and Lord. He paid for all our sins. The Salvation of Jesus Christ needs no human effort from any one. All is required form any sinner is to repent of the sins and pursue holiness, which is one of the cross’s gifts. Remember what the thief said on the cross to Jesus "Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom."  And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise." {Lu23:42,43}

What is the meaning of repentance

 Repentance means that the person forsakes his sins totally, hated from all his heart and do not want to have a fellowship with those who love sin. If you want to overcome the sin please read my article about the grace of God in my web site.

The shedding of the blood?

Jesus Christ shed His Blood on the cross for the forgiveness and the remission of our sins “…. and without shedding of blood there is no remission.” {Heb9:22} forgiveness is magnificent gift of the cross. If you doubt the atoning power of the Blood of Jesus, then your Christianity is in vain, for Christianity is based on the Blood of Jesus that was bleeding from many parts of His Holy body. The Blood that came out from many wounds in His body and that is why Jesus came in the flesh to atone for our sins with this Blood. He bled from the wounds caused by the crown of thorns. They put the thorns on His Holy head to mock Him as the King of Jews. They hammered Him with the rod many times and with every time that rod hit His holy head the spikes of the thorns went through the flesh in His head. He bled so much from the many stripes and the spears in His side. And let us not forget the nails in His Hands and Feet. The roman soldiers were so cruel just to please their superiors. Researcher said that Jesus heart ruptured, that is why blood and water came out of Him. I meant to write some about Jesus pain to show how much He suffered on the cross to pay for the forgiveness of our sins. He shed His Blood and did not spare His life, which is the highest price to save every one of us. If it was possible that we obtain salvation without shedding the Blood of Jesus, the Heavenly Father would have spared His only Son Jesus Christ from all these sufferings.

Was it possible to obtain the forgiveness of our sins without the cross?

If you try to clean your self without the atonement of the Blood of Jesus you are canceling out His cross and who He is as a God. Satan wants to convince you through guilt feeling that your sin is greater than the Blood of Jesus, the Son of God. Satan also wants to convince you that your sin as a human, the Blood of Jesus Christ is not sufficient to pay for it. Satan wants to convince you that the Blood of God all mighty, the creator of the universe with a His words, is not enough to pay for your sins and that is why I say:

the guilt feeling cancels out the divinity of Jesus Christ and cancel out the Word of God that speaks in many places about the forgiveness of Jesus Christ.

I will not try to convince any one with many words that the loving God loves us so much and forgive our sins when we repent, but I will mention some of many verses that speak about the forgiveness Jesus Christ.

Through my Christian counseling to many who suffer from guilt feeling I found that the quickest and fastest way to be delivered from this feeling is to show the person what the word of God says about this problems, for knowing the truth will set us free from the lies of Satan “Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." {Joh8:31,32}

Beloved the truth sets you free and knowing the truth is the solution to any problem that is why Jesus Christ describes Satan as a liar and father of lies for he has no truth in him at all. Satan does not want us to know the truth for knowing the truth will set us free from any problem, no matter how hard it is. The truth of God, the Bible, will set us free from guilt, fear, doubt, rejection …any problem spiritual, emotional and physical. Please read the Bible.

These are the main the causes of guilt feeling:

1- Having some authority figures in our lives like; parents, religious persons or any other person who have authority over us and have strict rules or they are harsh in their views. They are so critical with whatever happened around them. This will result in causing guilt feeling for others.

2- Satan’ condemnations to God’s children: Satan wants to steal your peace and joy for he is a thief and the easiest way to do so is to put condemnation on you in anyway he can. In the next article we will discuss how to flee from his condemnations.

3- Some may went through certain issues where they felt they were so wrong and because they do not know the Bible, they will feel that there is no forgiveness for their sins. That is why I will mention few verses that speak about the forgiveness of the Blood of Jesus so whoever reads these articles will be assured that he has forgiveness in the Blood of the Crucified. The verses are:

1- “I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, And like a cloud, your sins. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you." {Isa 44:22} did you ever see a cloud stationary and does not move? Clouds always move and disappear out of sight. God will blot out your sins when you’re repenting of them, for He loves you and that is His promise to you. His promises are always true. All is required from anyone is to repent of his sins for He Has paid the price for your forgiveness and that cost Him a lot of suffering. Trust that He will plot out your sins like a cloud.
